Here’s what you should know about eyebrow grooming

Our eyebrows play an important part in the protecting the eyes from rain, sweat, and moisture, and in keeping our vision intact. They are also crucial to our looks since unkempt brows stand out very easily while well-shaped brows gives an added dimension to your beauty.

There are plenty of ways to groom your brows. This article focuses on the do’s and don’ts because eye brow grooming is not something you want to mess up. A half shaved brow or an over plucked brow line can take weeks to sort itself out and concealing it with makeup is not an easy task. Let us first take a look at some good practices.

  • Fill it before you shape it: Before doing any kind of shaping, fill your brows in first. This helps in making the shaping process easier. Allow your eyebrow hair to grow, which is the easiest way to maintain a natural look. Apply castor oil every night with a mascara spoolie brush to aid in hair growth.
  • First brush, then trim: Giving your brows a trim can have a huge effect on the way they look. This can be done using just a disposable mascara wand or a fine tooth comb to brush your brows up and gently trim above the brow line to keep them in line in between waxing or threading.
  • Know your angles: Knowing your angles while eyebrow grooming can go a long way if you want to avoid brows that are too long or short. To find out the proper limits for your brows, vertically place your pencil or brush against the side of your nostril. Your brow should begin from where the pencil meets your eyebrow. To determine where it should end, place the pencil or brush against the side of your nostril. Tilt it to point to the far corner of your lower lash line. The spot where the pencil meets your brow is the end of your brow line

Now, here are some practices that you should definitely be wary of.

  • Never pluck more than one at a time: It is essential to keep in mind that we are all gifted with only a finite number of eyebrow hairs. So never pluck more than one hair at a time. You should always go slow and make sure the shape is maintained after each pluck. It does take time but not as much as the time required for them to regrow.
  • Say no to the magnifying mirror: Even though you may feel you are getting a closer look at your brows while plucking, magnifying mirrors have been known to cause people to overdo it, especially if you are not a professional.
  • Never get ahead of yourself: Always plan out your shape before you actually start plucking. Some experts suggest using a pale concealer on the parts you want to remove so that you see how your brows would look in the desired shape in case some non-reversible damage is done.
