3 DIY dry hair treatments

Hair damage isn’t just about split ends. Extremely damaged hair develops cracks in the cuticle i.e. the outermost layer of hair. Once the cuticle opens up and the inside gets exposed, your hair is at a greater risk for further breakage and damage. Now, the question here is ‘Can you possibly go from brittle and dry hair to smooth and shiny locks?’. For the most part, hair damage is permanent because hair is nothing but a collection of dead cells which makes them beyond repair. But don’t despair, with a few targeted treatments and proper hair care techniques you can help restore and improve the texture and appearance of your hair. Let us look at a few DIY dry hair treatments:

Homemade hot oil treatment
Hot oil treatments are one of the most effective and simplest remedies for dry hair.

You will need:

  • Two tbsp. olive oil
  • Two tbsp. almond oil
  • Two tbsp. jojoba oil
  • Two tbsp. coconut oil

Method:

  • Mix all the above-mentioned oils in a pot and warm it.
  • Do not overheat the mixture as it will damage your scalp otherwise. Make sure it isn’t hot, just lukewarm.
  • Massage hair with this mixture and wrap it up in a towel.
  • Unwrap hair from the towel after around 30 minutes and wash them with a mild shampoo.

Using this treatment at least once every seven days will give you healthier, softer and shinier tresses.

Egg yolk and water mix
Egg yolk is a brilliant dry hair remedy as it not only conditions your hair shafts but keeps them moisturized as well.

You will need:

  • Two egg yolks

Method:

  • Take two eggs and separate the whites and the yolks.
  • Add three tbsp. of water to the yolks and beat the mixture until it becomes fluffy.
  • Apply this mixture all over your hair and wait for around 30 minutes before washing it off.
  • Wash off your hair with cold water after this.

Honey and vegetable oil hair mask
Honey and vegetable oil hair mask conditions your hair while nourishing it.

You will need:

  • Two tbsp.honey
  • Two tbsp. vegetable oil

Method:

  • Mix together two tbsp. of honey with two tbsp. of vegetable oil to make a sticky paste.
  • Apply this mixture to your hair and wrap it with a plastic shower cap.
  • After 15 minutes, take the shower cap off and wash your hair with lukewarm water.

Other than these packs, inculcating few habits in your daily hair care routine such as using lukewarm or cold water to wash your hair as far as possible, avoiding the use of heat styling tools, using mild sulfate-free shampoos and following a balanced diet that contains a lot of water, will go a long way in keeping your hair nourished and maintained for a long time. Following these simple hair treatments for dry hair and being a little patient before the results can be seen will definitely give you luscious and healthy-looking hair.
